Thiruvananthapuram
The city of Thiruvananthapuram is capital of Kerala state. The earlier name of the city was Trivandrum till 1991. After 1991 it is officially known as Thiruvananthapuram. This word it is taken from the Malayalam language Thiru-Anantha-Puram that means the city of Lord Anantha this refers to Sri Padmanabhaswamy. The Temple of Shri Padmanabhaswami is located in this city. Thiruvananthapuram lies on the shores of karamana and killy rivers.
This city is India’s largest city in Southern tip region and also it is the headquarter of the southern air command of Indian Air Force. Malayalam is official state language where as you’ll find most speakers of Tamil as well after Malayalam.
Thiruvananthapuram is important tourist centre with Kovalam and Varkala Beach which are located near the city. Also the Shangumugham and poovar are the nearby beaches. Padmanabhaswamy temple which is located in the heart of the city it is considered to be Richest place of worship in the world.
This city is evergreen City because it has presence of many public Gardens. Thiruvananthapuram is easily accessible through road, Air and rail.
The airport is only 7 km from the city centre and connects to domestic places in country and also to Middle East and Southeast Asia in the world. The city zoo is considered as a one of the oldest zoo in the country. Raja Ravi Varma art gallery another main attraction to visit
I have visited this city and I found it very calm and decent. The view from the plane while landing in this city is just marvelous. You will see many coconut trees and huge plantation. South culture can easily been identified in this city.
The weather was very pleasant and though it is next to sea shore it is not that much humid as compared to the other sea shore cities. The South Indian food and different types of cuisines are available everywhere. The variety of Restaurants are also available ranging from low cost to high cost..I visited one shop over here, the name is POTHYS.
It is located on M.G.Road and considered to be favourite place for shopping. Though This brand is having chain of outlets in South India, I personally felt glad and happy to see this wonderful shop. This is super shop and provide different types of textile options including silk sarees.
The Hotel industry is also very well developed in this city and from Budget to Five Stars all options are available to stay. Thiruananthapuram is academic hub and includes Kerala University, IGNOU and KTU as well. Raja Ravi Varma and C V Raman hails from this city. Thiruvananthapuram has received best city award in 2015 and 2016 and definitely a great place to stay.
