The city of ‘ShivaMogga’ popularly known as ‘Shimoga.’ is one of the most popular destination amoung tourists. It is to be said that ‘Lord Shiva’ drank the ‘Tunga River’ Water using ‘Mogga ( means pot) and hence called as Shiv Mogga.
The city is located in the central part of the Karanataka and accessible via different routes. One can reach through ‘Ranebennur’ located on Pune bangalore highway and through ‘Sirsi’ as well if anyone is coming from Hubali.
Bangalore is 310 km away from Shimoga and can accessible through either through ‘Hiriyur’or ‘Chitradurga’ road. Kannada ia the most widely spoken language in Shivmogga. This district has vital point of view from education, from tourism and from Historical point of view as well. Shimoga is a well developed city and two Major national Highways pass through this city. This city has two railway stations and very well connected to Bangalore, Mysore and Chennai.
There are many tourist places near Shimoga. The world famous ‘Jog Falls'( Girisappa) comes under Shimoga district. It approximately 100 km away from main city centre.
Shimoga is very well surrounded by Natural Tourist Places. Sakrebailu Elephant Camp is 14km away from the city which is very popular where one can see lots of elephants which are being trained and being watched as doing different activities.
Bhadra Dam which is constructed on river Bhadra. It is majestic place to be at due to its lush greenery and home of many migratary birds. One can enjoy the Serenity at this place.
The another attraction is ‘Tyavarecoppa’ Lion and Tiger safari. This is the habitat for many Lions and Tigers as it covers huge area of two hundred Hector’s. This is a famous picnic spot for kids as well due to lovely Founa. It is having a zoo inside which is full of many animals and different types of birds specie’s as well.
This modern city has one huge park in the city namely as Mahatma Gandhi Park which comprises of small train, swimming pool, path for joggers and also aquarium.
Shivappa Nayaka Palace Museum which is laying on the bank of river Tunga established in the 16th century is also a popular place of visit. Shimoga offers many options for accommodation and food.
One can enjoy the delicious south indian food in ‘Minakshi Bhavan’ which is an old name for tasty food in the city. This very old restaurant is known for its taste and popular items like Masala Dosa, Idli Wada, Paddu and Avalakki mosaru.
The food serve on the banana leaves with the special green chutney. Also pure south indian coffee in the glass pampers your taste buds.
This heritage restaurant is must visit place. Mattur Lake is also a famous place to visit which is 10 kms from the city.
